sounds like fuel starvation

hi my lifan lf125-30 starts fine but only on the kick. when i rev it just spits and splutters. i cleaned out carb and fuel filter but to no avail. my mechanic is puzzeld as am i. recently went down on the left side but was working fine for a week after this. now cant seem to solve this issue. any ideas. thanks
