Chit Chat / Re: Lifan-moto is temporarily down
« on: June 01, 2008, 04:23:32 PM »
I have uploaded the May 28th backup to the new provider and I am awaiting two things,

1: I am installing a newer version of Yabb forum and then I will overwrite the templates, messages, members and other stuff. This will take several hours to upload again

2: I am waiting for the domain to propagate. The DNS has been changed and hopefully this network outage will not kick us from changing the name servers.

So I wait.

I am hoping to have the site up at least minus the forum in around four hours and then in another hour or two after than it is my hope to have the forum back up where we left off on May 28th.

I'll continue to keep everyone updated.

Thanks,

Almon

Well this is not an isp issue. The planet is simply reselling bandwidth to isp's. But I agree anything this critical that has such an effect on so many sites should have redundancy backups in place. I would think a lot of people with active site like lifan-moto are pulling their hair out by now.

I'm hoping I can have us back up by tonight at some point.

I'm currently uploading the May, 28th backup to my other provider and this will take several more hours to finish and then I'll let the domain propagate over.

Thanks,

Almon

I have gone ahead and started migrating lifan-moto to another provider. I have heard that H1 will not begin a test power up until 5pm central time today and then they will begin testing stuff out, if you include domain propagation this could put us out until late Monday and I at least need domain services back up by tonight if possible so I am moving everything, nothing personal as this could not be avoided by H1 but we all need to move on.

As I understand it there are about 9,000 servers down because of this outage, some of my favorite sites are parts of this outage,

http://www.mobilitysite.com
http://www.pezcyclingnews.com

This is really hard on Pez as the Giro ended today in Italy and there site cannot reap the advertising rewards as they are on site and doing interviews I'm sure.

It sucks and I plan to have some sort of mirror in the future for Lifan-moto so when these things happen I can basically change some name server info and be back up within hours and not days.

I'll keep everyone updated here in this thread until we come back online.

Thanks,

Almon

Saturday afternoon there was a fire that has knocked out electricity to our hosting provider’s data center.

We hope to have this back up and running soon, perhaps by Sunday night or midday Monday..

Thanks,

Almon

Below is a message from our provider,

From Doug Erwin:
This evening at 4:55pm CDT in our H1 data center, electrical gear shorted, creating an explosion and fire that knocked down three walls surrounding our electrical equipment room. Thankfully, no one was injured. In addition, no customer servers were damaged or lost.

We have just been allowed into the building to physically inspect the damage. Early indications are that the short was in a high-volume wire conduit. We were not allowed to activate our backup generator plan based on instructions from the fire department.

This is a significant outage, impacting approximately 9,000 servers and 7,500 customers. All members of our support team are in, and all vendors who supply us with data center equipment are on site. Our initial assessment, although early, points to being able to have some service restored by mid-afternoon on Sunday. Rest assured we are working around the clock.

We are in the process of communicating with all affected customers. we are planning to post updates every hour via our forum and in our customer portal. Our interactive voice response system is updating customers as well.

There is no impact in any of our other five data centers.

I am sorry that this accident has occurred and I apologize for the impact.

Chit Chat / Re: Has anyone done bussiness with this Lifan dealer?
« on: April 16, 2008, 10:41:22 AM »
I went on a road trip today to check out this seller (N.E.O. Motorsports). The address took me to a self storage place with a few clusters of small office type store fronts about 15 by 20 feet in size. Behind their entrance door is a landing and several steps down and to the left to the small room which is below ground level. They are mostly vacant but I found one with a Lifan sticker on the door that was also vacant. There are also quite a few rows of buildings with largest storage rooms about the size of a small single car garages with an overhead door. I asked any one I could find if they new what happened to the occupant of that office, and no one seemed to remember ever seeing any one there. One person that I spoke with directed me to the rental office for additional information. The person there was a little sheepish about giving out information. But they told me it was rented for 6 monthes and that included one small storage area. I asked if they had ever seen any motor bikes or atv's being delivered or picked up, and the answer was that as far as the knew the storage area was never used.

Heres a quote from their home page, " N.E.O. Motorsports is the leading distributor of American Lifan pocket bikes, scooters, dirt bikes, ATV's, and motorcycles."

This sounds like they are claiming to be a distibutor for a distributor?  This is truly Ridiculous!

American Lifan is the only authorized distributor of lifan products in the U.S. These products are sold  by the authorized dealers in their network.

I spoke with American Lifan in Texas about this seller. They told me that this seller is not one of their authorized dealers.

I remember them (N.E.O.) selling a green Gallata branded GRX200 sport bike about 2 months ago on E-Bay and it seemed  strange that they were claiming association with American Lifan. The picures they used were the very same that I found, and are still in use today on the Lifan- motorcycle-wholesale dot com. website.  I also remember this issue being ignored when I posted the information on another forum. It  looks like this may have been some sort of drop shipping scheme that went wrong. Lets hope that they didn't take anyone to the cleaners!

Heres a few shots of my "Road Trip" and my favorite car. No, its not a Lifan!-Buyingchina

That is some pretty good investigative work there BC. Perhaps you should come out of retirement and work for a news agency.

Rabbitscooters.com : there (posted) old address (I have paperwork) was Washington Blvd unit A Whittier, CA. 90606

This is just a tiny bit of the really interesting stuff that can be found on the WWW! Kind of reminds me of the classic movie "The Wizard of OZ",  or should I say The Wizard of Whittier ?  Who's really behind the curtain?

If speed and performance are your thing the difference between a China 200cc vs 250cc is not note worthy.

Thanks. Buyingchina

This is somewhat true but not the complete story. The difference between a 200cc and a 250cc is about 1.5 to 2 hp depending on the brand of China motor being used.

Because the 250 is about seventy to eighty pounds heavier that the 200 you will not notice hardly any performance difference in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. Howerver in 4th and specificly in 5th that extra 1.5 to 2 hp is the difference in about 7 to 10 mph stock vs a 200. On a China bike struggling to make 100mph this becomes a 7 to 10% gain which is huge for a China bike of such low displacement.

We do lots of mods to try and get an extra 3 to 4 hp out of the 200cc engines so they have just enough power to hit 100mph on a flat road.

If you decide on a 200cc engine and you are looking for optimal power output I suggest the following mods,

1: Rejet
2: Replace the air intake
3: Replace the exhaust with a performance exhaust

Also you can switch to a performance coil, performance head, etc, etc. In some cases it is better to start out with a 250 or larger bike.

If you need more speed than 100mph at or close to redline I suggest you buy a larger bike or at least a 250 with a higher compressions ratio where the hp is made in the higher rpms like a Ninja 250 or a Hyosung 250.

I hope this is somewhat helpful.

Hi,

Nothing that is not straight forward. You will see everything that needs working out, such as mounting the front wheel, spreading out the bars and tightening them down, that sort of stuff. I guess the main thing is that on all the main bolts that you will not be loosening often you should use some loctite, red or blue.

This is really needed on the rear hub, but it can wait until you change your rear sprocket if you have that coming. I have used red loctite on all my bikes.

I hope you are being funny but don't worry my friend, I am very Secure and Mature, that came from being in athletics all of my life. I might have a big head but that is because I'm smart and of course I am very demanding in the business world.

When you can race a bike over 150 miles and average a speed of 23 or 24mph for the day through the mountains that breeds maturity and if you can get through that then you can get through most other things in life rather easily.

Don't be hater...... I made my apology while defending myself from your speculation, what else can I do???

Hi DFloyd,

Yes it is the same bike. Sometimes when Rabbit runs out of a certain color they buy direct from TMS as they are so close them in California. I have owned both bikes and the only difference today is that one has TMS on the tank and the other has grx on it. they are both LF200-III bikes in every other way besides the graphics.
