Get one from an American Lifan dealer - and make part of the deal a fender-to-fender warranty. Take it in for periodic maintenance and oil changes and get your three year's worth.

Or sift through newsgroups searching for all this info.

Or wait for other replies.

1st oil change at 0 miles, 2nd at 20 miles, 3rd at 100 miles. Use conventional 10w-40 or 15w-40 from the automobile section. Do not use synthetics until 1000 miles. Do not add in any Slick-50 or Dura-Lube or Marvels Magical Mystery Tour Oil. Get a gallon sized at Wal Mart for $8, it will last you your first 1200 miles. Then if you wanna pay the same amount for one quart of purple synthetic, the jokes on you because you need slightly more than a quart for a proper oil change. So you have to buy 2 bottles just to get 1.1 litres. . .

If any of us went through enough hoops, we could get a crate full of motorcycles built by Lifan and you can have them branded "Stryderfan" or "Axe Grinder Special".

Right now China Lifan is transitioning their business model. With the IPO, it would seem they are trying to be more "American". This may or may not mean closing off the direct importer channels. Only time will tell. And these things do take time to develop, Roketa's or TMSs are still legal to purchase and are still made by Lifan in China - but what the future holds, who knows? If you want a crate of those "Stryderfan SF200 specials", you may have to get them now rather than later.

Would you expect Suzuki to service a Chevy/Geo Metro? They are the same cars built by the same people in the same factory. They are just branded differently depending on the model the company is using. Is a Geo Metro a Grey Market Suzuki Swift made with substandard parts? Both are made for the American Market - as are Skygo, Roketa, TMS, or whatever have you. . .

A Grey Market Lifan would be one made for Britian, India, or Canada, but redirected to the USA.

The Grey Market is sometimes so strange that exporting an item, then re-importing that item to the country of origin is cheaper than just buying goods made for that specific market.

These Lifans are not Grey Market - they are just not marketed through American Lifan's business model - just as a Geo Metro is not a Suzuki Swift even though they are the same car.

When it does idle, what are the RPMs?

Keep in mind that there are 3 different circuits in the carb. One for idle to about 1/4 throttle, one for 1/4 to 3/4 throttle, and the final for 3/4 throttle to wide open. It sounds like your problem is at the first part of the throttle.

There are two adjustments - one is your idle screw - which jams the throttle slightly open so the engine can get some gas while idleing. If you can get your bike to idle while slightly twisting the throttle, this is what you need to adjust.

There is also the pilot screw which affects the fuel/air ratio. Almost any carbed bike will choke if it's idling and you suddenly open the throttle. However, if you are opening the throttle normally and it is slowing down, you have too rich of a mixture.

In order to get more of everything into the mix, you may need to change your pilot jet.

To adjust the other parts of the throttle, you would mess with your needle and main jet - but to solve your idling problem, these are not part of the equation.

Check for leaks too! The WD-40 trick helps. If you do have a leak, the engine will suddenly change RPMs if you spray WD-40 onto a leaky area.

If you want a sound system, storage, and ability to cruise long distances, you are looking at a touring bike or a sport tourer. The LF200 are built to look like sport bikes, but they are more like standards and will need a lot of customization to do what you want. You may want to look at a different bike - such as a Silverwing or something like it. These Lifans are all single cylinder thumpers and while it is possible to ride long distances, they aren't the best. These bikes are great for someone who wants to save money and likes to mess around; but all these mods we are talking about are mostly about performance and not comfort. Out of the box, these things vibrate horribly. This vibration becomes tamer after break-in and a sprocket upgrade will move the vibration so it's not so annoying - but it's always there. After 4 hours on a tourer compared to a 200cc thumper, the tourer will win.

Even a 200-250cc scooter will be better suited for touring than a LF200iii. But I'll give you this, it's not as cool looking - plus in many states, you don't need an endorsement to run a scooter (check with your DMV). There are 600cc scooters out there!!!!
