Title: screw loose
Post by: fan on February 22, 2008, 11:20:00 AM
Evening.

Just went over on a Jet 50, scratched the fairing and pushed the back brake lever up. Nothing that can't be put right without too much bother.

More worryingly found a 14mm machine bolt on the floor, the type that holds the back spring and front forks in place. We've spent an hour looking to find where it may have come from but can't find a single screw loose.

Bike went down on left side, nothing missing, runs perfectly.

I'm a bit puzzled.

Any ideas?  I'm beginning to think it may have ben lost in production and only just fallen out although the thread shows signs of distress...

Those bolts are also used to secure the bike to the shipping frame.  How long is the bolt?

 About 50mm Bill.

It would make perfect sense for it to be a shipping bolt, on closer inspection it looks like it's been un-done using some adjustables as a bit mangled.

I really can't find anywhere it could've come from so I'm going with that.

Just not knowing made me a bit uneasy!!!!

Many thanks mate...

Oh, any tips on mods would be much apprieciated.

Thinking an uprated exhaust first, air box too.

I'll have a look at old posts....

Oh, and I'll need new front plastic so would love to hear about trusted suppliers please!!

Cheers all.

About 50mm Bill.

Yep... that's one that holds the front forks in the crate.
