Chit Chat / Re: American Lifan vs Lifan
« on: February 21, 2008, 12:00:12 PM »
All of this is somewhat true.  The Lifan grays are NOT manufactured in the same plant with the same parts and workers as some would like you to believe.  They may work out just fine for You, but you do buy the grays at your own risk and should not bash American Lifan or their dealers for not wanting to service them.  As others have said, you should be mechanically inclined, with tools and be frustrated as heck when parts for them are harder to get.  Mercedes Benz and BMW both went through this situation several years ago and when they found out it was not a real good idea for their reputation they stopped selling grays in the U.S.  I would guess that Lifan China, being a relatively new business, will soon learn the same lesson.  And by the way, these are facts not opinions.  I was in the automotive business for 38 years and have dealt with other imported products for over 25 years in our own business.

Stryder I have been watching this for a few weeks now.  I think I may be interested in getting in on this.  Not just because I own one, the car doesn't look all that bad either and gas savers are going to be here from now on.

I have thought about your problem now for a couple of days.  The only thing that come to my feeble mind is a vacuum leak somewhere.  While the engine is running try spraying WD-40 all over the intake system and vacuum lines.  If the engine speeds up at a certain point, there's your leak.

You don't say how many miles are on it so I will address some of the possible quick fix things to look at.  You may have already done them and if so let us know and we'll see what else we can come up with.

1.  Replace Air Filter

2.  Replace Fuel Filter

3.  Spark plugs may need replaced.  Although black does usually mean a rich mixture, sometimes they can be "Carbon Fouled" and require more secondary ignition than the system is capable of providing.

Finally, When it is cold here I have a heck of a time keeping it going for a bit until it gets warmed up.  You just can't seem to get the choke in a happy position.  After you play with it for a while though it clears and runs ok.

Chit Chat / Merry Christmas
« on: December 25, 2007, 06:36:46 PM »
Just wanted to wish everyone the best for the rest of this year and through out 2008.  Our oldest son's girl is a Harley rider and she advised us today that it is good luck to take even the shortest of rides, even if its very cold, on the first day of the year.  Has any of the rest of you out there heard of this tradition.  My wife says that at our age, she is 60, I'm 63, we need all the luck we can get so we should do it.  What do you all thhink??

Tim,

I just happen to have a new fuel valve that I will put on mine whenever it warms up around here.  The one that came on mine was leaking a bit so the dealer gave me a new one.  Here's how the line go as you face the switch:

Upper left is vacuum

Lower right goes to the carb

Middle right comes from the tank reserve

Upper right comes from the tank main

I have noticed that mine is very cold natured.  It always starts right up but I have to play with the choke and throttle to keep it going until it warms up.

Hope this helps, let us know.

Hey Tim,

Good to have another cruiser rider on the board.  I started to think I was the only one to have one.  You certainly did get a good price for yours.  Can't beat free.  I just sent you the complete Lifan Manual via email.  If you still have questions feel free to contact me.

I'm typically not into the sport bikes but I do have to say--that is one fine looking bike.  It just looks mean and as if it were going 90 mph sitting still.  Very cool!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!!  I hope some of you can get to take a ride today.  Unfortunately that's out for us due to the weather, lower 40s and rain.

Thanks for the comments guys.  I really do  like it a  lot and yes I got a super deal.  I think he was motivated to sell because it had been there for six months and he could use the cash to buy some ATVs for Christmas sales.

Here are a few pics of the newest toy.  I can't believe how well it rides and handles.  It really is a lot of fun to ride around here in farm country where you will count maybe five cars if you ride around for an hour.
