LF400 / First Lifan LF400's to John O'Groats ?
« on: August 29, 2009, 08:06:27 AM »
Hi All

Well for those who have been following what's been going on with the LF 400. Here's the latest and greatest adventure, that myself and stepson went on this week.

Monday 24th

Wolverhampton to Edinburgh, M6 upto Carlisle, then across to Edinburgh.

Tuesday 25th

Edinburgh -> Aviemore -> John O'Groats -> Inverness (Long day !!)

Wednesday 26th

Inverness -> Fort Willimam -> Glasgow -> Abington, ropey weather, driving over the mountains, in the clouds themselves.

Thursday 27th

Glasgow -> Keswick -> Ambleside -> Windermere -> Whitchurch -> Wolverhampton.

Total distance 1950km

Avergage fuel burn, for both bikes, about 5p per Km

Number of problems with either bike 0

All in all, an very enjoyable long run, that for any 400cc bike would be a push, especially laden with luggage as well !!, and the LF400 held up flawlessley, and without a single hitch.

So, for those of you still thinking about it, I strongly recommend getting 1, it appears there are problems with the internetbikeshop, but zing bikes stock it, and I did find a few other places stocking the LF400, such as Dragon Bikes. there is also the possibility that the Jinlun dealerships may well start stocking the Lifan range as well.

Cheers

Tony

Hi All

Just thought I'd post an update. Had the bike now just about a month, still only added another 600km, but I'm more than happy with bike so far, so much so, my own should be ordered by the end of the month, well I don't see why the stepson should have all the fun!! The problems with the idling speed, were quick and easy to sort out, now no more problems at all, always starts first time, what else is there to say, what a quality bike !!

If you're thinking of getting 1, don't just think, do !!

Cheers

Hi all

Sorted in the end, through rampdale, £400 exactly.

Now this may sound alot, but, bear in mind he's 19, passed his test less than a week ago, and has no no claims bonus !!

MCE were more than useless, they misquoted 3 times, the worst being they'd realised after they'd taken the money out to pay for cover, then realised they'd cocked it up, cancelled the policy, but now I'm waiting for the refund to re-appear in my bank !! bloody marvelous !!

Some of the other insurance companies, were rather expensive, but that was purely down to the fact he's only 19, has no no claims bonus and has only passed his test 4 days ago !!

Norwich union were the funniest, when told the engine size (400cc), and his age the sales lady said, I might as well stop you there, as for young drivers, anything over a 100 you will find that we're not competative at all !! I at least admire her honesty !!

Some quotes were rediculous to the point of being sublime, Carol Nash £3000 !! Oh please!!, do me a favour !!

Another I did quite like was Bikesure, TPFT £560, including legal fees and helmet/clothing cover.

Anyhow, it's amazing how many of these insurance companies are related to each other !! Feel like I've been going round in circles !!

Anyhow, long and short rampdale the best, Bikesure good, Carol Nash, well the less said and finally MCE worst insurance company, of any form, I've ever had the misfortune to deal with.

Cheers

Trying to sort out insurance for my stepson, this is proving to be something of a stumbling block, to put it mildly !!

Has anybody had any luck getting this bike properly insured, and if so who by !!

Thanks

So far, I really can't grumble, other than the 1 I have at the mo is destined for my stepson, provided he passes his test on Saturday, now what was the name of that examiner, and how much was that bribe !!!!! ha!.

As soon as i have the cash, I will be getting another for myself, as I think the bike really looks the part, and drives really well.

Just out of curiosity, are you the stryder off the Jinlun forums? I really think Jinlun have slipped up by not bringing out an EC compliant 400, as I'd have been very tempted, having been very happy with the 250-5 that I had.

Hi

That's exactly the same as mine, just minus the skygo branding. It's a lovely bike isn't it :-)

Hi All

Well, what can I say, I looked, I sat, I bought !!

What a lovely bike, what can I say.

it had 214 KM on the clock, so certainly not run in yet. As a result, the idle needed some tweaking, maybe because it's new, or maybe because of the previous owner, or a bit of both !!.

Anyhow, I decided I should take it gently, so started the intended A road run from Wigan to Wolverhampton.

The bike sounds, and handles delightfully, and even though it's not run in, the ease with which it reached 60-70mph, persuaded me to try some of the motorway, again, the bike handled  the motorway perfectly.

I have to say, I'm impressed, and it makes for the perfect 2nd bike to my VTX1300, I'm really looking forward to how it'll perform once it's been properly run in.

Cheers

Hi ibiddle

Do you mind if I ask where you are, I'm really interested in getting an LF 400, but before I commit to getting 1 I really like to see 1 in the flesh.

I live in the West Midlands, and if you'e not too far away I'd like to be able to see the bike.

I don't seem to have a dealer in my area, and I'm not getting much joy from the internet bike shop providng me with somewhere, or someone I can go nad see the bike.

If not, is there anybody else in the West Mids with 1 of these I could have a look at? i apologise if this is all a bit cheeky.

P.S. How is the bike, reliability wise and so on?, I've see your you tube video.

Cheers

Tony
